Bunyan`s BBQ in Florence

The real deal for BBQ. I am qualified, having grown up in Bama and having been to a lot of BBQ joints. This was one of the top 5 BBQ sandwiches I've ever had. Didn't bother with anything else.

The barbecue is great, but you better know what you want when it is your turn to order! Only giving 4 stars because I have never seen a smile from any of the staff, but the food is excellent. They are always busy around lunch and you can tell they are just trying to get everyone taken care of as quickly as possible. My favorite thing here is the pulled pork sandwich with hot slaw. They make hands down the best hot slaw in the area!

Overpriced but ok. People complain of the rudeness yet come back? Underpaid workers or just ungodly folks working & living there since their teenage years in west Florence , I guess . 🤷🏽‍♂️

Best slaw dogs I have ever eaten

The realtors that realtysouth down the road inform me of this place. They said it was a must go to and informed me that the slaw dogs were very good. Every time I come into town now I do stop and get at least two Slaw Dogs for my drive back home.

You want excellent barbecue, especially ribs. There's none better.

Good BBQ, but not a lot to write home about in regards to the menu or the dining area. The large BBQ pork sandwich I ordered was good, but it looked like someone had sat on it all morning. Sauce was great and you can take home a bottle. All in all: good but not great, for a BBQ place listed on the AL BBQ Trail.

BBQ lovers and foodies alike agree on this little restaurant and Dick Howell’s as the preeminent BBQ spots in the Shoals, if not the state. As great as the pulled pork and chicken and ribs are, there’s also a little secret jackpot you may not know about- the hotdogs! Delicious and fresh and flavorful, we order ours “hot”... you can’t beat them!

An interesting local experience and Florence staple. My lunch companion is a lifetime resident of the area and had been coming here for decades. This is a proverbial 'hole in the wall' BBQ joint with minimal inside seating (I counted 4 tables) and picnic tables outside. Walk up service and short menu makes this the obvious choice got spotted and flavor ... if you know about it. I sampled the BBQ pork sandwich and the "world famous" slaw dog. The BBQ was just fine - mild smokey flavor, tender, with a good house sauce. The interesting thing is that a BBQ joint is famous for it's hot dog, but not the dog itself ... the slaw topping. It was quite good. A little spice, a little tang, lots of crunch ... really quite memorable. I could have eaten a half dozen and wanted more. I'll return to try other slow cooked items like the ribs and chicken stew, but I'll be looking forward to another slaw dog .. or two or three!

The best hotdogs in the world!

Bbq was a little dry, not enough sauce. The mustard slaw was delicious that they put on it. If they could add a tiny bit more sauce it be perfect!

The best BBQ ever. No place can match and that includes Dreamland, Rick's, Lawler's, and all the rest. Service is fast. Wide variety of menu options and reasonable prices. BBQ is delicious and you have to try the slaw dogs as well. I have been going there 25 plus years and it has the same employees who care about the food they serve. If anyone is traveling through Florence, Alabama they have to try it.

BBQ sandwich was delicious. Masks and social distancing were great. Staff was friendly.

Recently visited this establishment myself ( not gonna lie got in the habit of sending my son in to order for me due to the customer service and outright rudeness) but I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted sincerely and happily. Food still awesome and will stiil patronize this establishment..very happy to see the staff step up. Very refreshing. Thank you.

My biggest issue with this place was the staff. Every one of them looked like they had a chip on their shoulder from hell and truly hated their lives. They were rude and not at all pleasant. Unfortunately, according to my coworkers, that is par for the course.Slightly pricy for quantity of food but it is a local place so that isn't surprising as hard as it is for Mom and Pop places now.The food was passably decent but there is at least one place locally (that is also locally owned) with much better BBQ... I was told the slaw dogs are beyond amazing but I couldn't eat them due to allergies. All together, the pulled pork plate was decent but not in my top barbecue experiences and not a do again thing.I won't eat here again simply because of how rude the employees were but the food isn't so bad that I'd tell other people to stay away from them.

They have the 2nd best bbq in shoals,Brooks bbq on union ave in muscle shoals , has the best bbq in the shoals

Over the years,Bunyan's 5 star.passed 2yrs. Slowly lost the perfection, still good just not as great.

Try the chicken stew and peach cobbler. This is some real good barbeque.

Absolutey Delicious!! If you leave a negative review it’s probably because you don’t know good BBQ. I wish there was place like this in Huntsville. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in Florence again.

2 slaw dogs and Dr pepper.....perfect lunch!

I bought a small bbq,small red hotdog,& coke.It was over $8.00. Too pricey in my opinion!

I've been eating at Bunyan's my whole life and I love it! Their barbecue is the best I've ever had. Their slaw is great too, I buy it at Foodland and put it on anything that could use a little kick.

Very pleasant and friendly people and atmosphere, great food and portion sizes for the price. Great for families or groups.

My favorite local barbecue place. Have been going there for many years, ever since I was a kid. It's a family favorite. Never disappointed in the food or service. Locally owned and operated. If you have never eaten there, I would suggest you try their food. Everything is fresh, prices are reasonable, and the taste will have you coming back for more.

I go miles out of my way just to eat here.

Got the ribs and potato salad. Was really not impressed. Flavor was good, but have had better local ribs. I know a lot of people come here for the BBQ though!
